The advertisement borrows the poem from, The Laughing Heart, by Charles Bukowski
22.
The poem mentions “being clubbed into darkness”
which is a slight bit harsher than advertisers intentions are. They want you to
buy their product and by using this poem, it makes you sense freedom in the
brand though it is just a ploy to get you to buy their jeans. The jeans don’t stand
for freedom and light, they stand for profit.

No the poem doesn't. The poem discusses becoming
free from something, letting it not holding you down from escaping and finding
the light. This is opposite if what he is known for, his alcohol addiction that
he had been riddled with since he was young.

First I googled the title of the ad but I only
found Levi related things. Next I googled a phrase from the poem and found its
name, author and the poem. To find the answer for 3, I googled Charles Bukowski’s
name and clicked on his Wikipedia page and read about his life. Then I read the
poem and found it ironic in the sense of what it said and what Bukowski did
with his life.
