My University
My day of independent learning was fabulous as usual. I missed Dr. Preston's normal greeting however the substitute didn't miss my name this time when she called role so that was good. I chatted with a few of my colleagues and then moved on to writing the journal. It was a great topic that I enjoyed writing about. I am currently learning Spanish, it makes me think, I am not only learning this language, but also about new things? Maybe it is just me, who knows. The class hum would have been fantastic but I don't think many people were into it/ read that far on the paper the substitute passed out so it was a wilted dream in no time. After the slight disappointment from that and the journal write was completed, I talked with some of my friends instead of doing my Beowulf questions. Shame on me, I know. Imanie was in a current predicament, choosing between the Galapagos, Africa and Italy I think. I came into the conversation when it was pretty much over but it sounded like a big decision with a big dollar sign after it. I am sure she'll choose wisely though. She has always been a thoughtful person. I just finished watching her Fox in Socks video which left me thoroughly amused. I was happy I invested 5 minutes of my time watching it. Tomorrow I am looking forward to catching up my blog and having the first two quizzes of the year completed and hopefully aced.

Reflections on Week 1
1.I can’t think of anything that will inhibit my voice in
conversations. So far I haven’t spoken up but that is because I am quiet, but
once we get into the year a little more, I will find my voice. I am ready for
the whole experience so nothing will hold me back.
2.Mentorship at the hospital watching surgeon operating on a patient. I could only watch it from a chair but it made you feel like you were working on the patient yourself; the way the surgeon involved you in everything he was doing and showing you all the different things he found and what he planned to do with them. It might have also had to do with medicine being my passion. There were other people in the room, but I was so focused on the surgery, it was probably the most interesting thing I have ever seen. I watched the delicateness of the surgeon’s hands and his face as he observed. It taught me about the care you could have for something or someone if you really loved what you are doing in life. It taught me also that what you learn in school actually means something later when you are able to make conclusions without consulting a book.
3.I am excited about getting better at writing essays because I am still not very skilled at that. I look forward to being smart. I like being able to know a bunch of information because I have invested my time wisely. I think it will help me later when I have to study for classes but also help me as I pursue my career. Especially through experience, it makes learning so much more vivid and leaves an imprint on your mind.
